Rajasthan’s experiential tourism gets fillip via cultural promotion
Rajasthan may have built its tourism around its storied monuments but the state now wants to make it more experiential, woven around its cultural riches and intangible heritage to increase the number of repeat tourists which is in single-digits now.
As the experiential travel is growing apace, the government has also been investing in fairs and festivals that not only complement the state’s iconic monuments but help promote activity-based tourism.
Many countries and travel companies in the world are diversifying their tourism products through experiential activities, covering adventure, culture, culinary journeys, wine, sports etc. They are catering to new breed of travelers who are no more interested in a post-card picture of sitting on the beach and relaxing.
Recently, UNESCO India and the Rajasthan tourism department signed a partnership agreement to promote community-based responsible tourism based on the rich intangible cultural heritage of the western Rajasthan. This is expected to add further impetus to the efforts of the state for promoting experiential tourism in the state.
